Forte dei Marmi
|
Holiday locality on the oriental coasts of the Ligurian See, it derives its name from the fortress that rises in the center of the city, built by the Granduca Pietro Leopoldo in order to defense the city and the marbles, that, from the Alps Apuane, were brought here to be boarded onto ships.
Symbol of Forte dei Marmi, the granducale fortress, risen at the end of the 18th century, today is dipped in a modern city context. Nearby the Fortino there is a beautiful well dated back to the 1700's; then the church of Sant'Ermete, built in the place where previously the marble blocks were stored, waiting for the boarding, it was widened and transformed in the current shapes during the 1800's.
But Forte dei Marmi is famous, not only for its magnificent coasts, also for its night life, the clubs and the parties on the beach, that make it a very popular touristic locality.
