Picturesque, quiet and sunny village on a cape of the western coast of the island, Forio suffered, during the centuries, the invasions of Saracens, of which it conserves the signs in its architecture. In 1950 many artists of all the world came to Forio, attracted by the beauty of the places and the friendliness of the people.
Dominated by the characteristic Church del Soccorso, Forio keeps its characterized historical center characterized by noble palaces, small alleys, small artisan shops and churches rich of history and art. Much evocative is the famous Chiesa del Soccorso, situated in a splendid large square, on a peak on the sea. It is one of the symbols of Forio, thanks to the devotion to the church, to the peculiar architecture, but above all to the position in which it is: from the cape you can enjoy an only panorama.
Along the coast rise many watchtowers: the other symbol of the town is one of these towers, called "Torrione".
Forio is the ideal place for those who are looking for a comfortable holiday: the town offers, besides the Terme and the beautiful thermal parks, also magnificent beaches, thought the best ones of the island.
