Marina Grande
|
Marina Grande is the port of Capri, located in a bay on the northern side of the island. It is the point of arrival of the tourists: here berth the ferries and hydrofoils from Naples, Ischia, Amalfi.
The commercial port was built in 1928 and till that moment the ferries did not berth on the shore, but they stopped in the bay. The passengers and the goods were transported with the boats of the fishermen of Marina Grande, a technique still used for the big ships.
The village of Marina Grande is very old and between the restructured buildings you can see structures of the ancient houses, that were once located just few meters from the water.
It is the point of departure of all the trips of the island; moreover from Marina Grande is possible to catch a funicular to reach the higher part of the town or, following the ancient Scala Fenicia, reach Anacapri by foot.
