Royal Palace of Turin

The first and most important one, among the residences of the Savoy family in Piedmont, the Palazzo Reale (royal palace) is located in the heart of the city, in the central Piazza Castello.It represents the symbol of the power of the House of Savoy, and, with the other royal dwellings, among which the Reggia of Venaria Reale, it has been inserted in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage.
The palace is characterized by three different styles: baroque, rococo and neoclassical; the building was the residence of the king of Sardinia till 1859 and of Victor Emmanuel II, king of Italy, till 1865. After the fall of the monarchy they were abandoned but recently they have been restored and now they are as magnificent as they were a century ago.
You can visit the sumptuous rooms of the Palace, but also the Giardini Reali (royal gardens), situated behind the Palace: during the summer here there are often concerts and cultural events.
