Mole Antonelliana
|
The Mole Antonelliana is the monument symbol of Turin, that with its profile marks the skyline of the city.
The construction of the Mole began in 1863, it was planned by the architect Alessandro Antonelli (from who it took the name); originally it had to be a synagogue, then a monument dedicated to the king Vittorio Emanuele II. It has been seat of the Museum of the Risorgimento and for years it has been used only as observation point, thanks to the panoramic lift (with transparent walls) that leads under the spire, from where a you can enjoy a magnificent view on the city and the Alps.
Since 2000 the Mole is seat of the National Museum of the Cinema, with sections dedicated to archaeology of the cinema, to the history of the photography and the collections of movies, all in an evocative atmosphere.
