San Siro

The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly referred to as simply San Siro, is the football stadium of the city of Milan, one of the most famous and prestigious stadiums of Europe. It is famous mainly with the name of San Siro because it is located in the San Siro district, and that was actually its name till 1980, when it was entitled to Giuseppe Meazza, the two-time World Cup winner (1934, 1938) who played for Internazionale.
The construction began in 1925; the stadium was officially inaugurated on September 19th 1926, with the match between the two main teams of Milan: Internazionale defeated A.C.Milan 6-3. In 2009 San Siro has accommodated also a rugby match, Italy versus New Zealand.
San Siro has a capacity of more than 80.000 spectators and because of this characteristic it has accommodated also international rock concerts, among which the Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, the U2 and Madonna.
In 1996 it has been inaugurated, inside of the stadium, the Museum San Siro on football: interesting curiosities that tell us the history of Internazionale and A.C.Milan. The museum is always open, and when there are no football matches, you can visit also the stadium.
