Museum of Science and Technology
|
The Museum of Science and Technology in Milan is dedicated to the great scientist Leonardo da Vinci.
The seat of the Museum is an ancient monastery, but since the inauguration in 1953 the collection has been progressively widened and it was necessary the opening of new sections.
Today the Museum has a surface of 40.000 mq, and exposes 10,000 objects representative of all the products of human talent in every age, that testify the evolution of technology and science. The objects are subdivided in different rooms dedicated to different disciplines, there are, as an example, the room of the radio, of electricity, of acoustics, of astronomy (where is conserved a rock coming from the Moon), of cinema…
Among the most visited areas we find the rooms dedicated to Leonardo, where are exposed 30 models of machines he planned, and the Sea and Air Pavilion: here you can admire relics of ancient ships and aeroplanes, used in World War I and World War II. In this collection there are prestigious pieces, among which the school ship Ebe, a sailing vessel of 1921, and the Enrico Toti, the first submarine constructed in Italy after World War II, launched in 1967.
