Vatican City

Vatican City is an independent state, enclave of the italian territory, in the center of the city of Rome. It is the smaller state in the world (0,44 km ²), ruled by the bishop of Rome - the Pope, but it encloses true jewels of art and architecture (together with the center of Rome, also Vatican City is in the list of World Heritage of Unesco) and is place symbol of the Christianity, visited from million people every year.
The heart of Vatican City is the spectacular Piazza San Pietro, in which stands the homonymous Basilica, crowned from the Cupola of Michelangelo, imposing on the Public Square, crowded every Sunday the catholic faithfuls in order to listen to the Pope.
Inside of the medieval walls that mark the border of the Vatican Statethere are also the Palazzo Apostolico, the Palazzo del Governatorato, the Vatican Museums (comprising also the Sistina Chapel and the Egiptian Museum), the Vatican Garden and many other buildings.
The residence of the Pope, that is the complex of the Palazzi Vaticani, encloses a inestimable historical and artistic value: it is a composition of buildings that together have beyond thousand rooms, in which there are the seats the museums and the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, in which there are a collection of ancient manuscripts and beyond a million books.
Favourite destination for pilgrims and tourists is the most famous parts of the Palaces, among which the Sistina Chapel and the Rooms of Raffaello.
