The city of Lavagna develops on the coast of Tigullio, but also in the valley, in a point in which the wonderful sandy beach becomes a true plain.
The village, like many other in Liguria, has developed in roman age and was famous for the stone that was found in the quarries of the Val di Fontanabuona, the slate.
Today Lavagna is a beautiful city, rich of culture and traditions, where you can to visit charming churches, as the Basilica of Santo Stefano, historical palaces and the Torre del Borgo, whose construction is dated the 16th century, and it is now seat of the Artistic Gallery of the Slate. But Lavagna is not only this, it is also beaches and sea, a city to discover... The touristic port of Lavagna is one of the greatest of the Mediterranean, the cooking is very good, and the city is animated by exhibitions and events, among which the typical Palio marinaro del Tigullio, a race where all the cities of the Gulf challenge each other.
